The Code of Best Practice on Rehabilitation states that at the beginning of each claim Personal Injury Lawyers and Insurance Companies must consider rehabilitation for each of their clients. In order for this rehabilitation to be as effective as possible for the patient, and cost effective for the insurer, it should be started as soon as the individual is medically fit to proceed with physiotherapy treatment.

    4.Ergonomic Assessments

Is work becoming a pain in the neck?

Research shows that approximately 35% of the United Kingdom’s working population suffer from back pain. A further 17% complain of aches in their arms and legs. These work-related musculo-skeletal problems cost employers in the United Kingdom up to 6 billion pounds per year in lost production.

Poor workstation / workplace ergonomics can cause a multitude of musculoskeletal problems. A Jash Physio ergonomic assessment consists of an individual workstation / workplace assessment and postural advice. The purpose of the assessment is to identify and eradicate risk factors, reduce the risk of current or future health problems and / or poor work performance. Risk factors may be related to working posture, the design or set up of the work area, equipment design, or simply the way in which the worker carries out a task.

Employers are legally obliged to carry out workstation assessments (Health and Safety Display Screen Equipment Regulations 1992) and correct office ergonomics is proven to have a positive effect on the health of the workforce. This can be reflected in a company’s overall performance.

Jash Physio can provide on-site assessment and training in ergonomics. Individual workstation assessments, back care awareness classes and group manual handling training sessions can all be provided.

    Jash Physio provide:

    Assessment and Report

A physiotherapist will spend 30-60 minutes with each employee and, following the assessment, a written report will be produced. This report will highlight any problems identified by the assessor. The report will also provide recommendations regarding adaptations to work equipment (e.g. office chair, keyboard etc.), work-station lay-out, training, task design and / or the provision of equipment and aids. Where equipments or aids are recommended a list of suppliers will also be provided.

    Keep your workforce working

Injuries in the workplace can lead to reduced staff productivity, increased sickness absence, and temporary or permanent disability. Evidence shows the longer a person is off work the less likely they are to return, therefore, the in-house physiotherapy services provided by Jash Physio aim to:-

  • prevent and minimise the incidence of musculo-skeletal disorders in the work place
  • provide early access to physiotherapy assessment and treatment
  • provide display screen equipment (DSE) assessments and workplace assessments
  • work with employers and employees to help staff members stay at work or return to work as soon as possible
  • encourage physical activity, good posture and self-management strategies at work and at home

  • Jash Physio continually strives to build partnerships with local businesses both large and small. In-house physiotherapy is proven to help them manage some of the biggest causes of absence from work. On-site physiotherapy is provided for organisations that would prefer their workers to be treated within the workplace. This approach to workplace injury management is cost effective as it reduces the amount of time the worker spends away from the workplace and, if required, can allow numerous employees to be seen in one session. Also quick updates or meetings can be arranged to give feedback on the progress of staff members with employers or occupational health representatives.

If workers are not at work due to their injury we can arrange to treat them at the workplace or at one of our clinics. The physiotherapists at Jash Physio will provide the best possible treatment, education and advice regarding adaptations to allow each individual to return to work in the shortest time possible. On completion of treatment advice can be given regarding implementations and adaptations to prevent a reoccurrence of the injury. 7.Successfully Return to Work

    With help from our physiotherapists

Jash Physio help many individuals return to and maintain a normal working life. Jash Physio’s Return-to-Work Rehabilitation Programme is designed to allow individuals return to all their normal daily activities after an accident or injury.

MThe return to work programme is very cost effective when compared with the business costs of absenteeism.

    Initial Assessment

The programme begins with a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) of the individual’s current abilities and limitations. An initial FCA score will be calculated. At all future treatment sessions FCA scores are also generated and documented. This easy to use system allows our physiotherapists, along with the individual, the individual’s rehabilitation case manager and the individual’s employer, to monitor progress (subject to gaining consent from the individual).

At the end of the initial assessment short and long term SMART (specific, measured, achievable, realistic and timed) goals are discussed, agreed and set between the physiotherapist and the individual.

    Treatment

Jash Physio perform treatment in a variety of settings:

  • Home Visits
  • Clinic Appointments
  • Gym Sessions
  • The location of the initial assessment and treatment sessions is largely dependent on the nature and severity of the injury / condition and the type of job / previous activity levels of the patient.

The initial assessment and goal setting allows our physiotherapists to formulate tailor-made treatment plans specific to the needs of each individual. Treatment is focussed on motivation and connecting each individual with an attitude of independence, and responsibility to their own future health and wellbeing.

    Treatment can comprise of:

  • Education
  • Electrotherapy
  • Manipulation and Mobilisation
  • Acupuncture
  • Exercise programmes
  • Specific work conditioning
  • Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Manual Handling and Postural / Ergonomic Advice

  • Final Assessment

Following the assessment a final report provides a summary of treatment, goals, and FCA scores throughout treatment. An analysis of these functional measures, along with the return to work decisions of the individual’s physiotherapist will be sent to all doctors, rehabilitation case managers and employers concerned. The final report will outline whether any further medical or therapeutic intervention is required, the scale on which the patient can return to work (if not full duties) and any equipment required (along with recommended supplier) to allow the individual to return to work.
